UAE Announces Eid Al Fitr 2025 Holidays

EID-Holiday-2025

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has officially announced the Eid Al Fitr holidays for private sector employees in the UAE. The holiday will begin on Sunday, March 30, and will last until Tuesday, April 1, 2025. However, the final duration of the break will depend on the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon, potentially extending the holiday period.

Potential Four- or Five-Day Weekend

Islamic months last either 29 or 30 days, depending on the moon sighting. If Ramadan ends after 29 days and the crescent moon is sighted on the evening of March 29, the Eid holiday will be observed on March 30, 31, and April 1, providing employees with a four-day break from Saturday to Tuesday.

However, if Ramadan extends to 30 days, the first day of Shawwal will be on March 31, resulting in an extended five-day break from Saturday, March 30, to Wednesday, April 2. According to astronomical calculations by the Dubai Astronomy Group, it is likely that Ramadan will be completed in 30 days, making a five-day break more probable for UAE residents.

Public Sector Employees to Get Similar Holidays

The UAE follows a unified holiday policy for public and private sector employees, ensuring that all workers enjoy equal holiday benefits throughout the year. This means that government employees will also get similar days off for Eid Al Fitr.

High Travel Demand and Rising Costs

With less than two weeks until the holidays, UAE residents have already started planning their breaks. Travel agencies report a growing preference for family-oriented and experience-based trips, with travelers opting for immersive holiday experiences over traditional getaways.

As a result, airfare prices on popular routes have surged by 15-20%, while hotel rates have increased by 20-30% due to rising demand. Travel agencies also highlight that all-inclusive holiday packages have become a cost-effective option for those looking to manage expenses during the peak travel period.

Crescent Moon Sighting on March 29

The UAE’s Moon Sighting Committee will begin observations on the evening of March 29 to determine the exact dates of Eid Al Fitr. If the crescent is sighted, Eid will fall on March 30, otherwise, it will be observed on March 31.

Residents are advised to stay updated with official announcements to confirm the final holiday schedule. With a long break ahead, many are expected to take advantage of the extended time off for travel and leisure activities.
